Welcome to "A Queer Flock"!

About

“A "A Queer Flock” is both a sensory and digital ethnography of a queer birdwatching group in London. This study aims to explore the ways in which this community engages with the birds and between the members through sight and sound through participant observation on the Whatsapp group and the birding walks, and semi-structured face-to-face interviews with the members of the group after said events. Moreover, another  goal of this work is to acknowledge how knowledge is produced and spread within the group and what cosnittutes a queer birding experience. In addition, this ethnography focuses on the different ways in which digital technologies are embedded in the group conformation and birding activities.

The study is displayed as a tree filled with birds, emulating an old encyclopedia, which the user can explore. Each of the sections is inspired by a fact about a bird or groups of birds and engages with the colloquial digital lexicon and puns used by the members of the group.
