How it all started

Nesting

Nest building is an essential part of birds behaviour. Nesting instinct drives birds to create a safe space for their offspring and themselves from dangers and predators. The nest is the first inhabited space of new born birds.

Lex

Queer Birders London started with a post on Lex, a text based app for the LGBTQ+ community. The app is centered around activities and gatherings more than dating. I posted asking if anyone knew of a queer birding group  in London and, if not, if someone was interested in forming one. The same day another user made a post asking if anyone was up for some birdwatching in London. Of course, we got in contact and started chatting. We started talking about how we got into birding and I told them about my idea for a sensory ethnography.

WhatsApp Group

Next thing, we setted up a Whatsapp group and started adding people that replied to our posts. After this study ended, Queer Birders London kept growing. Today the group has 31 participants and the birding community has started to manage itself without our administration.
